External Monitor with DVI output -- do I need an adapter?

I just purchased a 19" LCD monitor to use with a 15" Powerbook. The item came with both DVI and VGA cables. The DVI cable does not fit the DVI port on my 2005 Apple Mac 15" powerbook.

Is there an adapter I need? I assumed since the monitor had DVI and came with a cable I wouldn't need anything. The end of the cable is somewhat trapezoidal shape (as opposed to the port on the Powerbook which is rectangular).

Thanks.

Well, your PowerBook should have a mini-DVI adapter included. Did you have it when you bought it? Look in your PowerBook box. You should have a mini-DVI adapter there.

Thanks...I'll check again. But in looking at the specs from the apple website, I thought I saw that only the 12" Powerbook had the mini DVI port...

There's no reason that the DVI cable shouldn't fit that port...can you post images of the port and the cable?

Nevermind. I am a moron. With a little more 'aggressive' plugging-in action, it finally went in...

    Thanks, all, for your interest!

Now if I can only get my Ethernet TCP/IP internet connection at work to function, I'll be ready to toss my remaining Windows PC in the trash...
