F12 key not working for Dashboard

After upgrading my G4 iBook to Tiger, I tried opening Dashboard with the F12 key but this does not work. Checked Dashboard settings and F12 is assigned to open the application. Have reassigned this function to F8 and it now works.



Is there a problem with the function keys that have a hardware function, not working when setup for OS functions i.e. F12 is eject and F5 controls volume



Or is this simply a fault in Dashboard ? I have also applied the 10.4.1 upgrade.

    To use those keys on the iBook with other symbols on them (F1 - F6 as well as F12) as actual function keys, you need to hold down the fn key. So fn+F12 should have activated dashboard. I just remapped dashboard to F8 instead, which is much less hassle
