The upcoming console generation is just blowing my mind

Well, the Xbox 360 and the PS3 anyway (Nintendo is now an also-ran, too focused on their catalogue and ancient franchises to do much that interests many beyond their hardcore fanbase).

Now that the hype from E3 has died down, it is pretty clear that both of the frontrunner consoles are really a huge step up from what we have now.

There were the usual "Your console sucks and doesn't live up to the hype!" charges flung back and forth. The whisper campaign from Sony made me check my calendar to see if it was 1999 again. Not surprisingly, people fell for it all over again ("The PS3 is going to be 50x as powerful as the new Xbox and a lot of developers are dropping Xbox support and going with the Playstation because of it") They pulled the same crap they did with the Dreamcast, and people lapped it up. Then the word got out that Killzone 2 was rendered at 3 FPS on the dev kit, recorded into a movie file and played back at a faster rate with the proper audio track inserted post-render) then again, we saw just enough to make us want to buy defibrillators in preparation for the rollout of GTA4 on the PS3 and a few had to change their pants after viewing the Elder Scrolls IV footage.

As we bask in the post E3 glow, the only real question remains Where are we going to get the money to buy this crap?

I leave you now with some in-game screens (not cutscenes) from Project Gotham Racing 3.

Wow

Played XBox 360 at E3 this year and I wasn't impressed.

Big deal- jaw dropping graphics- this isn't going to make games fun.

    Same games different graphics. Waho.

I absolutely love my DS! The graphics may not be the best, but Meteos rocks and Kirby is great too. They are games that you could never play on any other system because they are completely unique and original.

I'm looking forward to all of the original stuff that nintendo has coming out this year and next. i.e. Nintendoes, Electroplankton, Band of Brothers, Work your Brain, Trauma Center, Animal Crossing Online, New Super Mario (this game rocks- played it for a loooong time at E3), etc).

There are so many good DS games coming out I don't know if my pocketbook is going to be able to handle is.

I'm looking forward to the Revolution just because it's supposed to "change the way games are played". Hopefully they'll come up with something new and exciting.

Is this Project Gotham: Sidewalk Simulator Edition? Where are the cars? All I'm seeing are some high rez (albeit pretty blurry) textures and bump-maps on some very flat polygons.

I agree with tacojohn that Nintendo actually puts out original and fun games. Gameplay should never take the backseat to graphics...especially if they're high rez but blurry on very flat polygons.
