mail.app problems after 10.4.2 upgrade

10.4.2 KILLED mail.app:

Mail is using ALOT of CPU % - which slows everything else down.

Sometimes it can't open one or another of my mailboxes, although none of my preferences have changed.

Mail won't find a new email until I close and reopen...Clicking get new mail doesn't work.

When I try to close the program, it will freeze and I have to do Force Quit to get rid of it.

NOW - I can't even OPEN Mail - I have to Force Quit EVERY TIME (it says Mail Not Responding).

I ran DiskUtility and fixed permissions AND reinstalled the .2 upgrade...no help

Any suggestions??

Interesting and frustrating, briar. While I'm no expert I suggest you try to find a program(shareware, etc.) to return your system to the 10.4.1 state and then talk to a Genious at an Apple store. You may have recieved some bad Mail code in the update that isn't going away with the reinstall of the update.

    Good luck,

    Steve B.

I am not having exactly the same problems but am finding that it hangs while checking my IMAP mailbox and quite frequently, I do have to Force Quit to get out.

Have you tried selecting each mailbox and choosing "Rebuild" from the Mailbox menu?

I have not tried that (until now) but I did remove the index files under ~/Library/Mail/IMAP-xxxxx which I presume does the same thing
