Spotlight Won't Index Or Search

Hope someone has experienced and correct this problem. We have three macs on our network (Mac Mini, two G3 B&W).

One of the G3s will not do a search using Spotlight. We have tried to force a re-indexing by

1) Going to System Preference

2) Select Spotlight

3) Select Privacy

4) Add HD to list (It won't whether I attempt to drag it or "add" it using the + key)

Any help appreciated!

adding a hard drive to the list will ENSURE that spotlight WON'T index it. you need to open terminal and type sudo mdutil - E /

As mentioned by ipodandimac, adding a folder or drive to the Privacy list will prevent Spotlight from indexing it. However, if you then remove it from the Privacy list, Spotlight should re-index the drive. This might be a bit easier than running a Terminal command.
