Black and Grey OSX install disks

I didn't know this, but apparantly there's a difference in the install-disks that come with the Mac you buy (grey), and when you buy a retail copy (black).

The difference is that with the black you can install on every Mac, while the grey ones only work on the type of machine it comes with.

Is this true ?

Why is this a concern? Apple is just doing this to curb piracy a bit.

Yeah, I tried to use my Mac mini install disc to rollback my iBook to 10.3.x and it wouldn't let me. I had to dig up the old iBook discs and install from those. \

Tiger retail DVDs installed on both without a problem.

No concern, just an observation. And while it's true what you say, for some people in certain situations it may be important.
