iBook Hard Drive Number Two Buzzes. Questions, questions, questions.
My iBook G4's hard drive, a Fujitsu, is constantly buzzing, after serving the machine since last December. Its first hard drive, likely a Maxtor drive, began to buzz somewhat like this and failed at the end of 2004, so I'm especially worried that my iBook has failed me again. I live in New York City and can see an Apple genius, but I'm honestly trying to avoid that option.
1. If the drive is buzzing, should I expect failure before the month is over?
2. I have AppleCare Protection; the iBook's miserable history warranted that. Can I ask for help on the phone, with Apple sending a box?
3. Is it true or false that three "major" failures would warrant a replacement of the iBook in question? (Strike one would be the LCD after it developed white spots. Two was the hard drive's untimely end last year.)

1,
hmm.. when you open Disk Utility what does it say about the SMART status of your drive?
2.
you can ask for help on the phone i think its easier to take it into your nearest authorised dealer or apple store rather than deal with all the shipping stuff.

no idea. but since you have full applecare you can talk about this with apple on the phone. since white spots, hard drive failure, and now a possible 'nother drive failure, they might give you a new one.dunno... i had white spots, new lcd has been doing well for 6 months now. hard disk has been a champ, anyway i replaced the hard disk with a faster bigger one myself, risking, well, pretty much guaranteeing that i violated the warranty.
