It will be available this winter for the Nokia N91 with a 4 GB hard drive says the manager for multimedia at Nokia. They are using an open platform (Symbian Series 60) and are welcoming everybody. When asked why it is taking so long for Motorola to release an iTunes-phone, he just laughs and says it's a bit strange.

Nokia is already cooperating with Microsoft (guaraneeing comatibility with Windows) and Loudeye (which is distributing content for MTV, MSN and Coca-Cola). Nokia might be developing a music store of their own.

Nokia keeps all doors open. There's no talk of any cooperation between MS and Nokia in making a music player nor service.

Reuters clarifies that there's no agreement between Apple or Nokia, just that iTunes is under development for N91, and Nokia is happy about it.

This should be in "iPod + iTunes" shouldn't it?

Nokia are definitely releasing a phone which plays music ala the iPod. I went to an audition for a Nokia commercial here in NYC and the device used for the audition was an iPod. The commercial shot in Brooklyn in July, so the final product must have been finished by then.

I find that incredibly interesting phrasology. You probably meant nothing by it, so I hope this causes no offense, but basically it sounds like you are one of those people (like my mother), that thinks that anything with headphones and playing music is an iPod. Just shows how sucessful Apple's product has been.

Anyways, much as this may be true, it is not really that unpredictable. People are getting board of the current iPods, as they cover any possible desire. Shuffle, Mini, chunky monkey, chunkey monkey U2 edition, chunkey monkey photo edition etc.

All apple has to do is put a driver into itunes 4.10 (5?) that says it will talk to this phone and this phone. They dont pay manufacturing, they dont design it, they just collect revenue everytime motorola/nokia sells one.

Yes. It's called N91 (as I said) and have a 4 GB hard drive, USB2 (storage support) and a head phone jack. It can play AAC (M4A), Real8 and WMA with built in software (Nokia won't bundle iTunes). It can record from microphone, line in and FM-radio. It can play and record MPEG4 video. It also has a 2 Mpx camera and WLAN.
