idea for safari/web page rendering

given that I wouldn't be able to program even if it were to save my life, I have a little idea for anyone who thinks it could be feasable and interesting enough.

Given that Apple seems to be putting OpenGL transitions in everything (fast user switching, picture presentations, screensavers, etc) why not for HTML/Web rendering//browsing?

I was really really tired the other day and my eyes played tricks on me and indeed, a few times it seemed that there was a cross-fade transition when I was clicking on some links. I thought it was quite soothing, but nontheless, decided it was time to go to sleep.

The idea would have is: click a link, data would load in the background, and once it was ready (or at least X%), there would be a cross-fade, or, a fade out/in. All this lasting half or less second. Possibly user adjustable.

There could be even the possibility to start the fade out/in right away, and have the pieces fade in as they are ready. e.g. I click on www.cnn.com and this page would fade out into the background of the new page (cnn.com), then whatever loads first, starts appearing, piece by piece. Like it normally does, except that now objects and blocks of text would be fading in.

Has anyone ever done something like this? Seem interesting?

Well, since most of us use Tab browsing I don?t crass fades would be a welcomed thing, more of a nuisance perhaps because the updated page would have to come to the foreground once completed to show off the effect. When I surf and find a URL of interest I send it to a tab in the background and come back to it later when finished with current page. I like where your coming from though maybe a transition effect between tabs would be cool.

I totally agree that links to external sites are a must with tabs, but, more often than not, inter-site links are still done within the same window...

Related to this topic; Lately I've been seeing a lot of rendering images from top to bottom in an "animated" way. Is this some safari rendering trick or is it a new xhtml/css feature?
