hey everyone,

i've read of the imac repair program, and ours is within the serial numbers of those due for repairs... but im not sure if it's got any problems or not.

The errors listed on the apple site include

* Scrambled or distorted video

* No video

* No power

i've never had a problem with the power, or with scrambled video, BUT i have had a problem where mpegs won't play!

I'll explain:

firstly, they are completely muted (when i know there's sound, because i've tried them elsewhere) and secondly they won't play properly. The image will freeze after 8 seconds, but the video will seem to keep playing.

The odd thing is that the problem solves itself. It started a while back, then it solved itself (and they played perfectly) now it's started again.

Does anyone know if this quialifies?

Thanks

    Seriously doubt it.

    When they say scrambled or distorted video they mean big lines and/or tears appearing through the screen. No image is just that. Easiest way to test is boot a full screen game. If you have the fault that should make your computer crash and in the system.log you will find some blatantly obvious message like video card error or something that may or may not be repeated. I can't remember the msg unfortunately it was 9 months ago or something.

    I'd say your problem lies elsewhere.
