Safari doesn't remember

On most occations Safari (running on both OSX 10.3.9 and 10.4.2) does remember my password (because it's been set to do so) - but every now and then it refuses to remember!? When I get back to that same site, I have to type in my password every time. How can I remedy this annoying thing?
