iBook airport problem (very weak or no signal)

I bought my iBook back in march and up until about a month ago my airport card worked great. I always got a great signal anywhere in my house. Then about a month ago I installed more memory (512mb, from crucial, not from apple) into my iBook. Since then, my iBook gets no airport signal when I have in places, that although are far away from the wireless router, I used to get a very good signal from. Also, now I get a very weak signal when I have my iBook right next to the wireless router.

As most of you know, in order to install memory one must take out/unplug the aiport card so you can have access to the memory bay, so one might think I damaged the airport card when installing the new memory. However, I took out the aiport card very carefully and when I was done installing the memory I made sure I put the airport card back in correctly and made sure the antenna was plugged in correctly/tightly. I have even gone back and checked the card a few times to make sure that everything was plugged in correctly/snuggly.

Has anyone else had this problem or know what I could do to fix it? Any info will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try repairing permissions. I had the same problem with a powerbook. I seldom got a signal higher than one bar even when I was next to a base station. Once I repaired permissions it jumped up to the top.

Applications / Utilities / disk Utility / select your HD by clicking on it. Under First Aid click on Repair Disk Permissions. That will repair your permissions. Then check your airport reception and see if that helped.
