This may be a silly question but I just got my first mac (20' iMac G5) and I know it has an internal microphone and I know you can use it with iChat and such what and what not. However is there just a way to record a sound file with it? Like so I can speak, have it record it and make it a file. Do I need another program or does it have that funtion built in?

Audacity is an open source (hence free to download and use) sound editor which will do what you want.

You should have gotten iLife with your iMac. You can use iMovie to make sound files from the internal mic. They are in .wvf and .snp formats.
