Problem with either iPod or Mac Mini Firewire

Situation:

I have a Mac Mini and a G3. I have been syncing my iPod with the Mac Mini since I've had both. Recently, my daughter used the G3 to synch the iPod. This morning, she tried to use the Mac Mini, but it didn't recognize the iPod. Nothing at all happened.

When we took the iPod back to the G3, it "saw" it right away.

Question:

How can I test my Mac Mini's Firewire port without another Firewire device?

Can the problem/situation be because of using the G3?

Any help would be appreciated.

The only way I can think of is to use your G3 as a firewire target disk. Hook up the two machines to each other via firewire. Restart the G3 while holding down the 'T' key. It should mount on your mini's desktop as a hard disk. If not, you have a problem, probably in the mini. You can also try it the other "direction" by mounting the mini's hard drive on the G3 as a target disk.

Moving to iPod and iTunes - seems like an iPod problem.
