HI

Should I purchase an internal SATA drive or an external drive to back up

my current hard drive? I've noticed you get a lot more GB for your mopney if opted for the internal drive If I go for internal should I go for a retail boxed or OEM?

Can any one recommend a good back up software so I can do a straight copy

of my drive.

Thanks

i would buy an OEM drive from somewhere like pricewatch or dealmac. Retrospect is probably the best backup solution, but is rather pricey. I'm sure there are some other cheaper (free?) solutions out there, that some other members can recommend

Carbon Copy Cloner can do a really nice exact copy. If you are running 10.3 there are no problems. If you are using 10.4.0 or 10.4.1, you need to upgrade (free) to 10.4.2 for it to work.

get the best of both worlds. get a good brand fw400 or fw800 external 3.5" enclosure and get an OEM 7200rpm 3.5" drive. now, the only thing that if it is fw400 you may have to pay more for a bus-powered 3.5" enclosure.....

Was actually about to ask a similar question about external HD's for back-up.

Given that I'm looking for an out of the box solution, is there any consensus out there for the various Firewire HD manufacturers to go for/avoid? Or is it the same drive each time with a different label?

La Cie Porsche design look nice, mainly due to firewire powering it, but are the Hard Drive Extremes etc a bit more durable?

Planing to go with SuperDuper for clone plus Baskup for iDisk back-up.
