New iBook, partioning questions

Hi everyone,

I just recieved my first mac, a G4 iBook with an 80 GB hard drive.

Now, I was looking for advice as to how to partition my hard drive. I currently have all of my files on my old PC and there is nothing on the iBook that I need to back up so preserving my files is not an issue.

I've read other posts here about how when doing a clean install of a new version of OS X people archive their User directory and can then transfer all the information back to the new install. Is there a way I can place the /User directory onto its own partition so that I don't have to deal with archiving?

Any suggestions you have as to how you would partition the HD would be very appreciated.

Thanks for your help,

Guy

basically, you have to go into disk utility when you do the install (you are wiping the drive, right?) and then divide up the partitions as you wish. then install OS X on the partition you make for it and the applications (or however you divide it up) and then carry on with regular installation on that partition.

once you get the system up and running your /users folder will have almost no data in it. so, this would be the time to map everything over the second partition that you made. here are instructions on that, and really the whole process:

    shouldn't be too tough.
