iBook with broken USB port...

The USB port on my 800MHz iBook appears to have partially fallen into the case, a condition I only noticed after determining that the port itself functioned on an intermittent basis. The other port functions properly and appears to be flush with the case and in good working order.

I guess my question is, will the repair/replacement of the broken port be a costly affair?

Have you asked Apple? How old is the iBook? You could try taking the case apart to asses what may have broken.

My guess is that the port is attached to the logic board and that the cost is going to be very high like $600+.

I'm not sure Apple will fix it free even under warantee. the warantee, as I found out to my chagrin is only for part failure, not damage.

I would take it to an Apple store to find out for certain.
