iPhoto Printing

So I'm thinking that iPhoto is a godsend for organizing and printing photos and since my fiance is putting together a photo album (by hand, not apple-ordered) of our last vacation, I decide to show it to her. Yep, she likes it to a point, then tries to print some 4x6's:



Problem: "How do I print more than one 4x6 on a page?"



Solution: "Umm...lemme see, it must be here somewhere...gee, uh i dunno!?"



Response: "This paper is kinda expensive, can't you just go back into photoshop and composite a few together like you used to?"



Answer to that: "Ugh, iPhoto was supposed to let me STOP going through all of that!"

Am I just missing this here? She's right of course, that high quality epson photo paper is something like $.75-1.00 a sheet, which is stupid money if I can't use the whole page... Has anyone found a solution to this? Or am stuck doing this myself in p'shop?

    I don't think there is an option that would allow you to have more than one picture on anything but a contact sheet. iPhoto does not allow you to composite pictures together, yet. What you should do is go to the iPhoto feedback page and ask for this feature.

    1.) SJ did say it was possible to print 2 photos on one page but I can't figure out how to do it either

    2.) you must mean epson glossy paper. I have found epson photo paper to be very good quality and relatively inexpensive

    3.) why waste so much of a sheet of paper for 4X6s when you can just get epson 4x6 photo paper? I use that and its like 20 4X6s for 3 bucks or something

    I think he was talking about the book Applenut. I've been having problems printing to 4 x 6 paper using iPhoto. I think the problem is my printer and not iMovie but the end result is the same. I have to really change my settings to get it to print correctly. I sent feedback to Apple and I hope they act on it.

    To print out more than one photo to a page, if you are printing onto 8.5 by 11 sheets, just use the book mode in iPhoto. Remember a few rules when you do this, though...



    1. put all the photos you want to print in a separate folder.



    2. your pages will be landscape (wider than they are tall) so all photos must be landscape as well. Use the rotate tool in the organize part of iphoto to rotate photos.



    3. photos are best if cropped to 4x6. Any other sizes and they will be surrounded by a lot of white space.



    4. use the 'picture book' format. This will allow 4 photos to a page



    5. You may have to pad the first photo as it must remain the cover. By pad, I mean either copy it or just put one you don't want to print.



    6. When you are ready to print, if you don't want to print the first page, make sure you set the range in the print dialogue.



    7. take the printed copy and trim to taste...



    The nice thing about this is that you do not have to move the actual files, and you get a decent preview of how everything will look when printed. The unfortunate thing is not having complete control over the gutter between the photos, so you must trim them carefully to get the borders the same (or just trim them off)

    brilliant! why didn't I think of that? Actually for this purpose, it works out as an excellent application - 'cause she's making her photo album from scratch, it doesn't have to be exactly 4x6, so the varied sizes that you could get from the books offer nice variety.



    I'm still procrastinating in ordering an apple-fab'd book, but I'm very curious....has anyone else had any experience with this?

    I can't say as I have, it being more difficult (not to mention more expensive) up here in Canada... I have, however, made three different fbooks, super easy, and printed out on spiffy glossy Epson photo paper... If there only was an easier way to bind them...



    I shall be checking in Micheals (a big craft store) for 8.5 by 11 inch scrapbook covers that have short posts to see if there is an easier way... Aside from that, it may be time to grab some cool wallpaper, some hunks of foam board and make my own. The great thing is the opportunities to do some phenomenal stuff if you step into the scrapbooking arena of products... Linked with iPhoto and papers available now makes this stuff a breeze...
