Drive by airporting

I was out doing a little war driving last weekend, and i found that it's not that easy on a mac. First of all there exists no special program for this. So I use Internet Connect, but driving and clicking the Network dropdownlist all the time isn't the easiest

So what I want is a program the displays all net it finds on a list. And I would also like the Name, not just the SSID that Airport shows. Since a lot of nets out there have the same SSID but diffrent Names.



My friend was using <a href="http://www.netstumbler.com"; target="_blank">Net Stumbler</a> on his PC, this is a good program that instantly shows the networks it founds.



So, does anyone have any info on this, if there are any programs for this or any code snips? Everything is appreciated. I Will try to make a OSX program, can't be that difficult communicating with airport (I hope).

Why in the world would you want to be driving around looking for Airport networks? My first thought is that you would only want to be doing harm or stealing files etc.... but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and give me some cool reasons why this would be fun AND productive (instead of destructive).

I want to know where in my town I can get connected, it's good to be able to get online in other places then home. I ensure you my intentions are not destructive. I also find it fun driving around. However, I,m aware that this subject stirs some emotions due the fact that some of the airport nets I might found that are open probably done this by misstake.

The applescripts use a program called "Airport Scripting", It is only available OS9. I wonder if there is anything like this on OSX?

I was in the parking lot of a WalMart once and accidentally discovered there was an 802.11 network right there from the construction company across the street. I didn't try it though, just saw it in the list.

Though many of them have been sealed up, you can still access a few AirPort networks by parking up outside 1 Infinite Loop.

Here in northen Sweden, Skellefteå, it ain't that many. I Found 14 nets in the hole town, 2 of them was open.

Sitting here in my apartment (NYC) I can see two other networks, sometimes a third. Living like a sardine is interesting...
