A Missing Safari Function!

Hey,

I am posting here because there is something that I really wish was in Safari and before I send in a letter to Apple telling them to add it, not that that makes a difference I wanted to make sure I wasn't just missing it.

The feature I miss or want it a "New Tab" button! Firefox has this and I really miss it when I use safari. Or even the ability to double click the tab bar like in firefox to open a new tab.

If I am just missing something let me know, otherwise I really hope that Apple adds this function to Safari as it really makes Tabbed browsing better.

It's there. Preferences/Tabs. Select "Enable Tabbed Browsing". Then just a button push and a click will open a new tab. I don't open the new tab when created because I like to finish reading what I am currently on before going to the new tab. I also have a morning and evening bookmark bar items so I can open all my usual reads with one click.

Thats really not what I mean, If I am browsing and I all of the sudden want to go to a new page but without closing the existing tab clicking a link to open a new tab will open the link but I want a blank tab. The same thing as going file > newtab.

command-T generates a new blank tab for me, why bother even clicking anything with the mouse???

I hope they add re-orderable tabs like there are in Firefox 1.5 beta. Just drag and drop them into order, just what I had been wanting.

Yes Command-T works fine but it wouldn't be hard to make it possible with a mouse and I am used to using a mouse.

The problem is (and everybody seems to miss this) is that there is a lot apple could do with little or no work but part of what makes macs so easy is there are less decisions. I know my grandfather, for instance, won't use program that have too many options and preferences.

Now i am not saying that i don;t wish apple did some stuff they don;t but in the end they tend to make it easier.

That is also why 3rd party apps exist. I wanted a close confirm on safari and found Taboo. Look around to see if there is anything for you problem

i want the ability, like Firefox, that new browser windows will always open in a new tab, instead of a new window... I hate that... like when I click on an external link (in Adium, iChat, email, etc...)

aaaah... ok.. I also meant the cool function in Firefox that says "open new links in a new tab instead of a new window" like links that will forcibly open a whole new window... dammit, I hate that.

And yes, I know I can right click and say "open link in new tab" but its so annoying after a while...

QuicKeys is good for making all the keyboard stuff into buttons. I lean back in my chair with my feet on the desk, so unless my keyboard is in my lap already, I have to reach up and drag it down just to hit return or escape. Especially in Safari where there is no "GO" button after you paste in a URL. Arrrgghhh.

So I made a QuicKeys Toolbar which I even put ESC and CR on it as well as Home, End, and all of my logins for websites that don't allow autofill on the UserID and PW. Also vB and UBB codes for pasting in quotes in text boxes like this one.

Control click on the Tab bar gives a context menu that includes new tab among other options

Reorderable tabs (or even break-away / drop-to-add tabs) are a big plus, and don't clutter the interface. They can even be a new preference so that novices don't accidentally start dragging tabs and windows all over.

A simple New Tab button should be an optional toolbar button, but I prefer Command-T.

I wish Safari let you have your bookmarks open on the side while browsing like in Firefox. Instead you have to go into a bookmarks manager. If they would change this I would probably switch to Safari which is otherwise pretty cool.

It's in the File menu. You can access that with a mouse.
