Hey, Im going to university and want a display for both my ibook and for playstation2/dvds. TV is not that important. I'd also like it to be HD ready for when blu ray and ps3 come out etc.

So its gotta have...

a vga connector for my ibook.

a scart or whatever the yellow wire thing is called for ps2

and whatever the ps3 will need for hd.

Been looking around, does such a display exist??

I have the 27" model from this company. I got it for $699 after rebate from CompUSA when it was on special. It is HD ready.

I use the component input for my PS2, the Progressive components for DVD, VGA for my laptop when I want to, and regular cable via the coax.

The reviews on it are all good. All say the same thing, however, and that is to use the best quality input as possible. The difference between composite and component input from the PS2 was quite noticeable. I wouldn't use composite input with this monitor.

What is the performance like as a computer display? It's primary use is as a diplay for my ibook.

The 27" model that I have runs at 1280x720 max resolution and is a 16:9 ratio. My laptop runs at 1024x768 and I have to admit that it looks a little goofy stretched out. Still, the resolution and response are good enough that if I had to use it as a full time monitor, I probably could.

PM me your email address and I will send you a picture of what Appleinsder looks like on the monitor when it is hooked up to my laptop.

it's got vga, dvi, s-video, composite, blah blah and a resolution of 1920x1200. we have this monitor for our pc and also have a ps2 hooked up to it. fantastic monitor in my opinion.

Thanks for the pics, really dont like the way it stretches the image.

Is the Dell HD TV ready?

Im thinking about this one http://www.trustedreviews.com/articl...t=1559&head=75

Although I'm not so bothered about it being able to tune into hd tv I only want it to be HD ready for ps3, blu ray and a decoder box or whatever.

I also got the Dell 2405FPW. Great monitor, but when I use it to play PS2 games it shows them - get this - too clearly. You see every fault in the picture, every lack of detail.

PS3 will in all likelyhood output HD via component, and yes, the 2405FPW has a component input along with DVI, VGA, SVHS and composite (that's the one you currently use PS2 with).

The display has no HDCP which is supposed to be the HD connector of the future... but then again, that's just encrypted DVI with a different connector, and it's only for the music and video producer companies' benefit, not for you or me. I'll just give 'em the finger and not buy anything that demands my display have HDCP.

Sorry if i'm being dumb but is the final picture output going to be full hd quality with the dell regardless of the connector?

That's the problem with DRM (digital rights management) in general: impossible to say. As long as that crap is in the product at all, one video might show up in full HD and another might not. With the next generation DRM that might be in Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, what works properly might even change over time - they'll deliver updates to the DRM code over the network, or piggyback it on new video and game discs. You can't avoid the noxious "upgrades", and even if you somehow did, you couldn't run new discs because they will have new encryption keys.

Anyway. Games will certainly show up in full HD because the game companies are not nuts. Movies might not be full HD.
