Ipod's and studio monitoring headphones

Hello,

I ordered a Nano and I was wondering if I could hook up my studio monitoring headphones onto it.

I got this:

headphones

I looked around for the nano's output voltage and wattage, but couldn't find the information.

Also, do I have to look out for impedance differences?

It's gonna be pretty big compared to the nano but they sound a lot better than in-ear headphones...if it works...

Thanks for any input.

Greetings,

Jef

I use those headphones all the time. No problem. They are REALLY sensitive and I suggest you encode your music at a higher-than-avrage bitrate because you can hear soft distortions.

You will never use the iPod at full volume unless you use the headphones as speakers for several people.

    Thanks for the info.

Yeah they have pretty big clear drivers heh?

I like them a lot, always a very clean sound and the power is there when u need it.

I mostly encode at 256kbps, which is pretty high, I record my records to play them through finalscratch on big speaker systems so 256kbps is a must actually...

So what ipod do u have?

Someone know that the output wattage differs on different ipods?

hey? you guys said you have those headphones?

I have a pair and so does a good friend of mine. After a few months of use, sound will only come out of one ear unless i jiggle the plug around a bit. I thought it was a fluke or something I did to them, but it turns out my friend has the exact same problem... any of you guys experienced anything like this?

Besides that they are great headphones. I have used them with my 2G 10gb and 4G 20gb and they work great. You wont be dissapointed with them.

I have a 30GB 3'rd gen iPod and even at full volume it is well under the 3 watt limit of our headphones. I don't have specific information on the iPod, but I remember reading the iPod amplifier can exceed the set standards of a line level device by something like 20%. That was a long time ago and my memory is fuzzy.

I had a similar problem when I used the headphones with my laptop. It turns out when I watched a movie on my lap, the plug was long enough to catch on my clothing and twist the headphone port on my laptop. Eventually it broke. That is the only drawback to those headphones... the HUGE plug sticks out! I bought one of these and relieved the strain on the port. It could also be a dirty connection.

Well my headphone-jack output from my Ti has the same, I accidentally tripped over a wire connected to it once, so I have to twist the plug to get 2 channels of sound. This only happens to that specific cable so the problem is in the cable.

Either way, the headphones are ok.

I'll guess I'll be alright then hooking it up to the nano.

It should arrive today so i'll update later on.

Yeah i read the other threads, I'm leaving the protective cover on until i find something better...

Got my nano this morning, and it works flawlessly, even on usb 1 it's pretty fast. Well, fast is relative heh...

There's only one thing that annoys me, the click button in the middle sometimes clicks very lous, sometimes normal, what is that?

Couls it be the protecting foil?

Another question, I use my powerbook for mail and iCal, and my G5 holds my itunes collection, would this give me any problems switching between computers?

I sync my iPod up with iTunes on my G5, but also use iCal on my laptop. The easiest way is to export your iCal calendar and transfer it to the G5 and manually update it. You could also put the iPod in disk mode but that would disable automatic iTunes syncing but allow your iPod access from both computers.

    Tested it out, works nice.

Ical and contacts uploaded bij iSync on Ti.

Well I don't need automatic updating of my songs because i have a 16gb library when the nano is only 4Gb.

With 'ipod disk mode' on, i can hook it either to my Ti or G5 on iTunes.

    8)

    For the rest all's ok.

    Ahem... big troubles...

Today I decided to run my nano battery flat since i thought it was good for batteries, so i left it playing all day.

At work the battery got depleted, i go home, connet the nano to my G5,

it hangs with the apple logo on the display without backlight.

Ok, i do some searches how to reset the nano, did that (select+menu for 6 seconds), then it shuts itself off. (don't know if it really resetted it because of the flat battery)

It's dead since then, no more resetting, no target disk, no battery charging icon...(which i've never seen, because i just got it about 24 hours ago...)

    Here: apple support

    It says:

If iPod is locked up it will not charge , reset iPod. When you reset iPod all your songs and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Tip: iPod will not wake automatically if you connect to a 4-pin FireWire port. Press the Select button (center of wheel) to wake iPod.

So, what to do if it was locked up when having no more charge to reset it...

Sounds like an evil loophole to me...

    Any suggestions?

Maybe I should start a new thread...?

I have no help to offer with your problem, but I WILL tell you never to run your battery down again on purpose. The battery that's in the iPod is rated for a number of full charge cycles. Therefore, if you run it down to 75% each time and charge it back up, you get 4 charges that only count as one charge cycle (4 x 25%), or something thereabouts. The more charge you leave in the battery, the longer "life" it will have for the long term.

    Trust me I won't...

It's lame, why let internal software control the battery charging?

    That's friggin' stupid...

What happened to voltage, pins and wires?

Do apple employees read the apple support forum?

    Thanks for the info though...

    Ok fixed it...

Connected it to a windows machine and it started charging batteries...

At least one thing windows does better than a mac
