According to this post at Dirson's blog, Google and Sun Microsystems are to announce a new and kick-ass webtool: an Office Suite based on Sun's OpenOffice and accesible with your browser. Today at 10:30h (Pacific Time) two companies are holding a conference with more details, but Jonathan Schwartz (President of Sun Microsystems) claimed on Saturday on this post of his blog that "the world is about to change this week", predicting new ways to access software.

My initial response is ...bad idea. The web is just not a good nor expedient way of handling office applications. Now I await the eventual product to see if my assumption is assinine. TTFN

Apparently it didn't happen. They announced a collaboration that might eventually lead to "Google Office," but it wasn't officially announced at their press conference today.

[edit] Well, I can't quite tell what happened. Some of the news stories are reporting that Google will be promoting Sun Office.

the sun press release just kind of mentions that google and sun are going to team up a bit on some things. sun will put google's toolbar as a download on their site. google may buy sun hardware. and a vague reference to office.

I'm taking a wild guess that these flagrant hacks of web apps will be broken on every other browser...
