Photoshop CS2 problems

I recently upgraded to CS2 & I've been having some weird problems that I

didn't have with CS1.

1.) When working on an image, I would get the beachball that just keeps

spinning. It doesn't happen all the time but it happens enough that I'm saving

my file every couple of minutes. It doesn't matter if the image is a small

web-sized graphic or a100 meg image. It doesn't matter if Photoshop is the

only program open.

2) I have it set on the bottom of the image to show the efficiency & there are

times when it had dropped down as low as the mid-50's. The images I work on

rarely go over 100 megs in size. This doesn't make any sense. I've got 1.5 gigs

of ram in my powerbook (1.67ghz 17" model). The ram cache is set to 75%.

My history is set to 5 & the cache levels are set to 6.

I was going to fill out a bug report on adobe.com but the form asks the steps

to repeat the bug except these problems are random but frequent.

Any ideas about what the hell's up with this?

PS. I'm using the most recent version of OSX.
