move to intel query

Will the future move to intel hardware mean an overall processing speed reduction of multimedia apps which are heavily reliant on the PPC 'altivec' hardware present in PPC (G4 and G5) hardware? For exampIe, I use FCP and a bunch of audio apps which has been specifically coded in order to take advantage of this altivec architecture in the PPC.

What is the deal here... will PPC users be forced to purchase brand new versions of PPC applications they already have etc etc etc? And what about performance, rendering time etc? I ask because this information is not in the FAQ at the top of the page. I am not a programmer... Is this a valid issue or concern?

Yes, it is, at least for the beginning. That's why it is believed that Apple will transition the Power Mac line (and probably the other G5 machines) later or last. By this time, the Intel CPU technology is expected to be at least as good as the IBM one, even on code that has been optimised for Altivec.
