I have no way of testing this...

My mom just ordered a new iMac w/integrated iSight.

So, yes, I could set her up with an AIM account, but what about Jabber?

I'd like to set her up with a Gmail account and then set up iChat with Jabber account and use that to iChat with her (video)

Feedback welcome...

Yes ... you can video between two iChat clients over Jabber.

Just to clarify, I dont mean just Jabber - Jabber... if I have a .Mac account and my mom has a Jabber account, it's ok?

.mac (as you are thinking of it) simply accesses the AIM network. For you to chat/talk/vid with someone on the Jabber network, you will have to set up a Jabber ID as well... this is free and easy. Google "Jabber" and do a little research... you'll be on your way in no time.

you can video between two (or more) AIM ID's or between Jabber ID's, but not from AIM to Jabber (unless there's a hack out there that works around this).
