What happened to the "Vcast" category in the iTMS?

Last time I looked, Apple had a separate (and rapidly growing) category for video podcasts at the iTMS.

Now, we're back to just podcasts. Looking at the "new and notable" page, for instance, the only way to discover if a given item is audio or video is to click the link see if the little TV icon is in the show listings.

This seems very wrong to me. Is it?

Right, but not so much a particular name, just a category so you can browse video podcasts in particular, not lumped in with podcasts in general.

I would have thought that this close to the release of the new iPod Apple would want to do everything possible to highlight video content at the iTMS.

They don't -- they currently want to highlight the video content that you pay for. Sneaky.
