iPod 5G problems

hi, i just got a new ipod video, and i'm lovin it, cept it doesn't goto sleep. I even put sleep in the menu and nothing happens when i click it. also, i have movies converted by Video2Pod and iTunes lets them on my iPod but, my iPod shows nothing more than a black screen and sometimes freezes. And lastly, my deestop icon for my iPod looks like a sketch of the old iPod, on my friends mac it's a new iPod video-how do i get this? please help. BTW, i'm mostly concerned with the sleep thing.

    and now my album artwork is no longer showing up on my iPod, and yes, that pref is checked in iTunes

    i reset everything and the sleep problem is the only one left. i brought it into CompUSA (apple store is 45 minutes away) and somehow everytime, it went to sleep right away. is anyone else having this problem??
