I just bought a Samsung SyncMaster 730B... 17" 1280x1024 DVI and VGA. No dead pixels, great color and brigtness. After rebates it ran me 200. Look around at different stores... I found mine at office max where next door at circuit city the same monitor was 30 bucks more expensive.

Viewsonics tend to be good (I have one). Also look at Dell. They tend to have stuff on the cheap, and not all of it is crap.
that is the brand we use at work and the friggen backlight flickers like crazy on all of them, THEY SUCK!

BenQ just released something white and promising...
