remember how we were supposed to get an avalanche of spotlight plug-ins when tiger came out? well, here we are, and according to the apple spotlight list, we've got 52. and i still don't see the one i desperately want/need... an adobe spotlight plug-in. especially one that can index OLD files. i've got tons of old projects that i would love to be able to index and search for articles to get, etc.

also, i REALLY hope leopard extends spotlight to keep catalogs of offline media, like cd's and such. kinda like what disktracker would do. disktracker was great for its day under os 9, but they never really "got" os x. there's an app called "catalog" which does much of the same things, BUT i have exchanged e-mails with them and, while they have thought about making a spotlight plug-in, they themselves weren't so sure apple wouldn't try to do the exact same thing.

and there have been some bugs int he spotlight system, as documented by macfixit (ignoring some file names), and doing just weird things like scanning the fonts directory by default. geez, when i found out about that and kicked it off, spotlight ROARED to life.

well, anyway, maybe it's just me. but i'm just not seeing the community fervor over spotlight anymore. or maybe i'm just using it wrong.

I think Adobe has some universal binary stuff to do so I doubt they would be looking at this. Plus, just imagine how there PC friends will feel with such a disparity of features...

Your observations are probably fair about the numbers of plug ins. However for me, Spotlight seems to find just about everything I need. Anything in the future, including improving Spotlight itself will just be like icing. Tiger dot 3 really seemed to speed things up.

I never use it. Its functionality and effectiveness is quite good, its just that I never need to use it.

true... like i said, i may just not be using it to its fullest ability. it certainyl seems faster and more robust than the old "v-twin indexing" that sherlock used to do.

i guess i still want "computer... you know that thing i was working on? that thing that took a while for bob... it was kinda pink and yellow... can you find that for me?"

oh wait, that's called an administrative assistant.
