Recording off of Internet Radio

Why isn't it possible to record mp3's off of an internet radio stream? Obviously you'd need some sort of software to do this, but can it be written? If not then why not?

    Because if Apple built in a cache folder where the music was downloaded into MP3 form, they'd be in deep **** . Apple wants you to live the digital lifestyle, but not in such a way as to break the law... (wink, nudge).

    But some enterprising young software programmer could build such an application (with cache), no?
