Memory controllers and DIMM arrangements

Are there any speed advantages to be gained by fitting eight 256MB DIMMs as opposed to four 512MB DIMMs or for that matter two 1GB DIMMs?



Does the memory controller access the DIMMs concurrently, or does it not work like that? Is it like RAID striping?
