Managing iTunes with a full iPod

How do you manage iTunes when you have more music in it than you have capacity in your iPod? I?m assuming you do a manual update, but how do you choose which playlist go into the iPod? Can you use the folder feature in iTunes 6?

You can use smart playlists and specify a maximum capacity, like 2GB or 4GB, etc... so you always copy to the fullest capacity, but allow some randomness or other criteria you may want to specify.
