Tell me about your GPS

I'm beginning to investigate GPS options. Reality dawned on me recently when I was comparing GPS built into the newer cars with the external options available from Garmin, TomTom and others.

Tell me about your experiences. Do you use your GPS enough to justify the cost? Anyone with PDA GPS want to chime in?

I have GPS built in to my Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I love it. Definitely worth the cost, and great integration into the radio/dash. I personally don't care for the external units, my Dad had one and it just didn't seem to fit in well with his car. The external ones do seem to keep their software up to date better than built0in ones though, his was always finding places mine didn't have.

It must be nice to say

"the hell with mapquest" and hop in the auto with the address knowing you'll get there without pulling your hair out.

exactly, and one of the nicer features is when you are somewhere unfamiliar, you can search for restaurants, or malls or whatever you want. By name or by type, once you get used to it you really miss it if you don't have it.

For massive functionality, the Garmin units with integrated XM satellite datalink would be hard to beat (at a consumer level.)

I've recently been using one of these (model 396 maybe?) in an airplane and the datalink capability is better than what we use in the Boeings. I haven't used it on the ground, but it does have a "car" mode that I'd have to assume has comparable functionality.
