I really need some help with this

Okay, I had a LaCie external drive the started acting weird and making bad noises after falling off of the desk. I went today and bought a new drive--a Maxtor 200GB--to install in the old enclosure. Everything seems like it went together fine, but I've plugged it into three different machines and none of them recognize it.

When I plug it in, the lights come on and I can hear it start to spin, but it won't mount and nothing shows up in Disk Utility or System Profiler.

I can't see how I would format it unless I could get access to it. I think I'm missing a step. Please help.

    Hey,

First, don't drop firewire disks off of your desk.

Second, don't mix and match enclosures and drives unless they are designed for such there is probably some funky chip inside preventing this.

    Third. click this link http://www.lacie.com/support/

Fourth and most importantly say three times aloud:

"viiv viiv viiv Shazam intel powebook......YONAH!!!"

    Hope this helps.

Woohoo! Thanks a lot, T! All I had to do was move the little jumper to set it as a master.

For the record, the guy at Lacie was really cool about the whole thing too. I'm a very happy guy.
