Is it true that X86 Ti9ger running on VM ware is faster than urrent G5's and if so is this just th GUI that is mopre snappy or is it true of "Real World" applications such as video encoding. If so this bodes well for the transition and also brings into question what we have been told all these years about "Fat Pipes".

A wild educated guess says that media-heavy computations would be faster on a G5 (marginally so) but that day to day type apps will run noticeably faster on a Pentium core (integer math).

PCs have always been better at integer and are gaining speed in FP math.

Under VMware you probably have no Quartz Extreme, no Quartz 2D Extreme, no Core Image/Video Extreme, etc. so I'd guess it's not very "snappy".
