Speaker advice please.

I've finally given in to the idea that I ought to have some decent speakers set up with my Mac. In my previous setups, I had the Mac in the same room as the entertainment system and either a) listened to music, etc. through the main system or b) hooked the Mac up to the main system when I really cared to hear the noises it was making. Now I have the computer in a separate office and the lack of ambient tunes is starting to bug me.

FWIW, my main system is an older pair of Paradigm's hooked to an HK AVR 230. I'm a bit of an audio snob/"audiophile" but I don't have the $$$ or inclination to go completely crazy.

Can anyone recommend some "decent" powered speakers in the $100 range? I don't think I want a satellite & sub rig - space issue.

I'm running the old Altec Lansing 641s. I'm not sure if the make then anymore. But these speakers a flawless, to say the least. I crank these things nearly to the max and can't get then to distort... basically to ear bleeding range. They sound crisp and yet very warm at the same time. Perfect EQ.

You might check out these guys. They sell a sat/sub unit, but the price is right and they'll even pay return shipping if you don't like it.

When it comes to computer speakers, 1-inch "full range" drivers with 4-inch "subwoofers" won't come close to the sonics of your Paradigms. The loudspeaker rule of thumb: small, efficient, accurate sound - pick any two.
