open works just like double-clicking it in the Finder.
open /Applications/iTunes.app
open ~/Pictures/baby1.jpg
open ~/Movies/Family/Xmas2005.mov
man open for more info.

Cool, I am so used to opening stuf at work in linux with 'need' commands and or just typing the app I want... ie
>shake 001.jpg (to view a render or such)

Cool, I am so used to opening stuf at work in linux with 'need' commands and or just typing the app I want... ie
