I maxed out my Dual 2.7 PowerMac G5's 250GB pretty fast and I am looking to buy an additional internal hard drive. I've been scanning the internet and reading various benchmarks done by different websites only to find that results vary. I am looking into getting a 500GB drive just because it's the largest one out there. Though I have read on the net that some people say that the difference in latency on that large of a drive makes them still favor 300GB drives.

I do intensive audio and video work which is why I figured I'd buy the largest drive (because I will eventually fill it). But I am interested in having good streaming of large files which is why I am concered with the retrieval rate. My G5 uses Serial ATA which is great for streaming large files as I understand it.

I was hoping that I could get some advice from other Mac-ers on which drive to buy. Seagate, Hibitachi, and Maxtor are the manufacturer's of the 500GB drives I see most often on the net.

Should I get a smaller sized drive?

Should I wait for the rumored new hard drive system to come out?

All Advice and opinions on the subject would be invaluable to me! Thanks!

Also, this is a side note question but, when working with audio and/or DAWS, does it really matter which drive is used for that kind of work (the primary or secondary?).
