CPU overhead in backup to USB/FW harddisk
I currently run Retrospect from about 60 computer to a dual 1 GHz G4 to AIT-1 tapes (with hardware compression)
If I migrate from tape to external harddisk the media cost will be halved and restoring backups from one or two disks is much faster than from 15 tapes...
With hardisks the compression has to be done by the CPU. I have read that USB loads the CPU more than FW. My question is if that load is significant on a 1 GHz G4??
