So you guys agree with me that the iMac should just be the Macintosh and there will be a subnotebook called the MacBook Mini?
I like the idea of the MacBook nano, perhaps, like what happened with the iPod lines, replacing the entire mini line with the nano; perhaps the Macintosh Mini will be replaced with the Macintosh Nano and the subnotebook would be called the MacBook Nano. Maybe then a new iPod will come out that is practically a PDA and it will be called the iPod Pro, and they will drop the shuffle, thus they can have a 3x3 product line.
On another thread, Mac Xi appeared, or Macintosh Xi. How serious that inventive soul was, I don't know, but I liked it. It is simple, unusual, and it hints at intel, as well as OS X on intel. That was a petition to Apple several years ago, to bring OS X to intel. Someone knew something was going on then, or there were little balloons lofted to test interest! Many signed it.
MacOcto, or OctoMac. There is a good name. While the second flows off from the tongue, the first catches the attention. Then if someone specialised in working on them, and developed intimate knowledge of them, he could be called Doc Ock, short for Docto Octo(Mac).

Macintosh Nano -- Macintosh -- Macintosh Pro

I am really digging this symmetry. You are onto something, except macintosh = mac. I think you are right that apple should be incorporating the nano moniker everywhere. Let it be known: next revision of the Mac Mini is the Mac Nano. And sooner or later the iMac will be just Mac (doesn't the apple's intel ad just say Mac not iMac? -- I should watch it again).
Also, MacBook Nano will be all black, just as expensive as the MacBook Pro with the super energy efficient Core Duo inside (dual 1.23 or 1.06 or something) and whatever flavor of small widescreen lcd tech is readily available (10", 9", whatever the japanese happy micro books use). I'd also love it if it came with one USB2 and one Firewire and incorporated the wireless USB standard (how about that for badass). Not sure if Apple could shoehorn an optical drive in there. Who knows.
Yep, I was thinking MacTower as well. MacStation isn't bad, either, or Mac Pro or even ProMac. With a new quad-core CPU, maybe bring back the Quadra name?
MacBook seems a bit awkward and ungainly. Hope Apple comes out with a decent name for the PM replacement.
Well, since power is dead, the new chip is the "core" so why not "Core Mac"
and they could open special pro only retail stores, call them Apple Core
insert rimshot here
Or, in the regular Apple stores, there could be a section right in the middle called the Core of the Apple, for the high end machines and pro software. Apple Core is pretty good, I must say. You know how to split the Apple with one shot, that is for sure.
You guys seriously want them to start using the word Macintosh Again? If you do... First, you know nothing about marketing and advertising. Do you also want them to call the iPod the iPortable Digital Music Player? That rolls of the tongue nicely.
Secondly, like someone said... The word "Macintosh" brings back memories of those huge ugly beige boxes with slow components like the Quadras, Performas, and Power Macintoshes. They were cool in the early 90's, but not anymore.
If Apple just wanted to sell to the choir then sure being nostalgic would be a good idea, but last time I checked Apple's main concern right now is getting people to switch from the PC and to sell ipods. Reverting back to name that hasn't been used in nearly a decade would be a terrible decision and I can guarantee you they won't do it.
Hey let's hire Gil Amelio and John Sculley back on while we are at it. Fine by me, Apple's stock needs to go back down so I can afford to buy it and get a gain back from it in 5 - 10 years. *Still kickin myself for not buying stock in Apple in the late 90's.
"Macdesktop" just doesn't sound good... Nor do any of the other ones I stated above.... I hope it stays at PowerMac.... It has the word Mac in it so perhaps it will stay that way.

You really think so?
When I think Macintosh I think of THE Macintosh, the 128k that is, I think of "On January 24th, Apple computer will introduce the Macintosh, and you'll see why 1984 won't be like 1984"
Oh, I am in a small business, and so marketing and advertising is something that one has contact with. A quality product and a good reputation are something that are important, and you also must present yourself well.
Macintosh is still used, and Mac was used in the time that you are referring to, the beige boxes in the 90s. They are used pretty much interchangeably, and if a computer is called a Macintosh, it will still be called a Mac. So if there were a Macintosh Pro, or something like that to come out, it will end up being called a Mac, probably the same day it comes out, as the using community ends up putting a name on it. So you don't have to be afraid that the name Mac will go away.
You also need not make some reference to past Apple CEOs. For that matter, Sculley, while he fizzled out so to speak, also was CEO during Apple's greatest growth and market capture. He is not my hero, it is just fair to say that. And Amelio also did much to trim costs and product lines, and began to seriously and sensibly look for a new OS, which he was forced to. He helped other companies to turn around, and several of his measures were also helpful to Apple, even if drastic. Now Steve Jobs was the one who had the charisma and who had acquired more business sense in his time away, which he also showed with Pixar(except he almost sold it to microsoft that wouldn't have been good). So I am happy that he came back to Apple. Amelio, while he instituted many useful measures, and also bought NeXT, was not the presence that Jobs has been, nor had the vision that Jobs has had, and has lent to Apple.
Comments
Makes sense-- the consumer stuff is friendly, first name basis (Hi, Mac!) while the pro stuff is a little more formal (That's Mr. Macintosh, buddy).
Admittedly we're already off track of this notion with the MBP, but "MacintoshBook Pro" is obviously a non-starter.
So, "Macintosh Pro" has a nice ring to it. Maybe if Apple every makes a smaller form factor tower they can call that the "Mac Pro".
Ad copy: "Introducing the Macintosh Pro and the Mac Pro. One of them is, um, bigger."
Mac --- iMac
Mac Mini

MacBook Mini?
MacBook Nano?

I'd give Mac Pro 85% odds. Hmm, Mac Quad? Mac Leap Ahead?
Mac Pro Dual

I was promised octos and flying cars. If I knew they weren´t here I would not have let myself be born (yet or here).

Having the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro isn't great idea.
Or maybe it could be called the Mac Daddy? Daddy Mac?

Accomplishes the goal of having MAC in all product names AND is actually more informative/descriptive than the older terms.
The 'mac' is good enough for most users (Mac, Mac Mini, MacBook), but the PRO's need the PRO models (MacBook PRO, Mac PRO).
Enough said...
iPod is iPod, too much at stake to ever drop the i there...
Agreed - and you could add MacServe and MacServe RAID
and they could open special pro only retail stores, call them Apple Core
