Hi all, got a quick question:

Forgive my illiteracy, but can the iMac G5 use 3rd party wireless cards, (i.e. Linksys) or can you only use Airport?

(i have a 1st generation 1.8)

You can only use an Airport Express card. It isn't a PCMCIA slot, it's a specific form factor.

ah ok. and you can connect to non-Airport base station networks (i.e. linksys) with it?

Yes, the base station can be non apple, I have a linksys wrt54g .... works pretty good, but only after I installed the new firmware, before that it was really crappy. I get faster connection wireless on my powerbook than i do with my 3gig pantium4 dell lol...but its ok, I never use it anyways.

You could also use a cheaper usb wireless card, if you didn't want to pay for the airport card.
