My Virex hasn't been updated since November. I can't eupdate from my Powerbook because it cannot find eupdate. I can't find any link to Virex on .Mac. What have I missed? How can I update my Virex and move on? Thanks for your help? I cannot seem to search and find anything on Virex here either so I will appreciate your help.

Apple stopped providing Virex around the time that Tiger came out. IMHO, apple removed the one compelling thing about .mac compared to a normal webhost but that is besides the point.

NAV is available but the general consensus, is that it is useless.

    Would I be better off:

    Paying for Virex updates

    Buying NAV from Symantec or

    Doing nothing

    In your opinion?

for a while i thought it would be good to have an antivirus but everybody here convinced me otherwise. I may reconsider it but for now, i am not worried about it.

The only viruses you have to worry about it macro ones in Microsoft office files but they will warn you if there is any macros attached so it really isn't a real issue

Thanks. I can't seem to see McAfee eager to upgrade me in Virex anyway. I do feel exposed with nothing between me and the hackers. Am I correct that McAfee has done nothing to contact .Mac users to move them to supported upgrades?

well, if you want, you can always manually update Virex... Just go to any mac software websites such as http://www.macupdate.com and type in "Virex" in the search bar. Just download Virex Virus Definitions (**Date Goes Here**) and run the installer.

Here, I did the search for you: http://macupdate.com/search.php?keyw...14&button.y=15

I can still update Virex via eUpdate, but the DAT files are only updated once per month.

You can pick up daily DAT files using Get DAT Updates

I have Virex, but haven't bothered to update in quite a while. What's the point really? You don't have to worry about virsus' and especially if your not doing anything from windows.

You may be right DJ. Then again, if you ever need it, wouldn't it be better to have protection than not?
