Will GarageBand and Jam Pack loops work if installed on an external drive?

I would like to buy some of the Jam Packs to use Apple's loops to make music for various video projects I work on. But the Jam Packs would eat up a lot of my internal boot drive.

I am kind of a novice in this regard, so was wondering: If I were to buy an external drive, could I install GarageBand and/or the Jam Packs on it, or do they need to be installed on my internal boot drive?

Thanks for all of your assistance!

Unless you are desperate for disk space id leave the application and the loops (which live in your libraries of the user folder and the main system) on the start up disk.

Your files is a different matter.

Make a garageband folder on your external and replace the gargageband folder (in your music folder) with an alias of this folder. Your song files will then be stored on the external drive. This is the most desirable option (any one serious with music will save their files to a second drive.) The caveat is your external drive must be reasonably fast.

The reason to use a second drive is the system can refer to the start up disk without interferring with the read/write of the drive saving the song files.
