Adobe said they are currently testing performance and compatibility of its Creative Suite applications running in Apple?s PowerPC translation layer, Rosetta.
As in "drive a stake" rest? That does not sound encouraging.
Yeah - it took nearly 2 years to go from CS1 to CS2. CS2 was released last April, so I would say Universal CS3 would be coming early 2007 at the earliest.
Adobe releases on an 18 month schedule. Creative Suite 2 was released in the spring of 2005. Creative Suite 1 was released in the fall of 2003. The next version should be on track for fall 2006.
I would be very surprised if these products were not Mac OS X on Intel native.
Looks like they will not make any interim releases to CS2 before CS3. And they are committing to 18-24 month product cycle. So, since CS2 was released on April 27, 2005, that means we can expect a UB version of CS3 somewhere between Oct 27, 2006 and April 27, 2007. Therefore, unless Apple improves Rosetta with transitive and optimizes the OS to better use the intel core duos, the PowerMac G5 quads will be the fastest in photoshop for another 9-15 months. Unless of course they release new very fast quad core duo intel powermacs that more than make up for the emulation speed loss.
The one good piece of good news is that a UB version of LightRoom will be released soon.

Thank God now let's put this to rest.
