I was trying to reset the Adobe Photoshop settings because I was getting some errors and due to the deleting of a file, I found this:

I've also heard you can press Command+Option while clicking on 'About Photoshop' in the Photoshop menu

or

Alt+Ctrl while clicking on 'About Photoshop' in the Help menu.

and the Adobe Space Monkey will pop up.

This has been in every PhotoShop version since version 4 (I can't remember earlier than that). PhotoShop 5 had a cat that burped if you press on his nose.

Illustrator also has a similar alternate splash screen that shows Venus.

Big Electric Cat has been in Photoshop for ages. In PS9 he is in the bottom of the image shown above.

In one version you couldn't see him - he was in a box floating in the sea, but if you clicked on the lid, he burped.

Space Monkey is PS9's code name btw.

I get something that looks like a planet with a halo, but on closer look there seems to be a skull in the planet.

The picture has DARK MATTER written on it.

I have the educational version (I am a teacher who gets discounts - YEAH).

I get that too. I have version 8.0, otherwise known as CS1.
