do you guys think there will be an update of the ipod at MWSF. if not new features, perhaps a lower price? what are your thoughts/inside info? Personally i think that there will not be new features but maybe a $50 price drop... what do you think?
they sold ipod's with a 50 buck discount already at their last expo at the 22nd of November. So i would think they could at the very least manage a price drop of 50 if not a little more...
they cant really add features..... it would be a kick to the early supporters of the device. i think there is a remote device out there somewhere (as beta as it may still be) because of the contacts up near the haedphone jack..... but i would expect the upgrade to come at MWNYC, maybe the Japan expo..... the market there really likes clever little things, and the design of iPod rivals anything sony can do.

I've given up trying to figure what the Japan market wants. In Akihabara last night I was in a couple of Mac stores. The iPod was just drawing casual interest. They had one hooked up to headphones and one in FW mode on an iBook. People kept picking up the one in FW mode and trying to play it. Nothing would happen so they put it down and walked away.
Now the economy is so bad here and there is such a profusion of small, clever, portable devices that I don' t know how you get someone's attention here. I wonder if that is part of the reason for having a broad product line here. If you just have one model it is easy to miss. If you have five or six variations it takes up a whole shelf and now you have half a chance of getting someone to look at your stuff for more than three seconds.
Better get a high quality direct to MP3 or AIFF (selectable) voice recorder and an FM tuner. Then it'd be perfect. DAB and AM in a really small inline enclosure would be gravy (there's quite a bit of DAB in the toronto area) but as of yet it would probably cost more than an iMac to buy so we can forget it.
So Apple jut two things to create perfection a voice recorder and an good FM tuner. Think ya can handle that?
The iPod is perfect for what it is. I'm serious. The only thing that Apple could possibly improve on with the 'pod is size, and they obviously cannot work on that as long as they use the same hard drive.
So all I ask of Apple is a price drop. I don't see how people other than die-hard audiophiles and such would consider spending $400 on an MP3 player. Sorry, but $250 is the most I can ever see an MP3 player costing. It's kind of along the same lines as buying a Dual 800 G4 if you're exclusively a gamer.

That is exactly what I have been saying ever since it came out, 'cept the stuff about Toronto.
With a radio tuner and a mp3 converting voice recorder, I would buy one at the current price level.
By MW I think we might see a 50$ price reduction, but that's all.

While your there, the main page notes that there is a 10GB version of the iPod hard drive released that is a bit thicker, but should still fit in the iPod. Look for both the remote and 10GB version to be released at MWSF.

While unsupported, there are ways to 'hack' it.
Forget the iPod's pricing though...what about those Studio Displays! Am I the only one hoping they'll whack $100-200 off each of them?
The 15" should be no more (even shooting high) than $499. And if the 17" was $799, you KNOW they'd fly off the shelves!
