Just curious, for those of you with intel macs, what is the quality of quick time videos? Is the playback quality smooth? I would imagine that all the decoding is done through software, as Intel doesn't support the Altivec engine
But Intel does have SSE/SSE2/SSE3, which does some of the same things. If a developer used the Accleration framework, as Apple has been suggesting, then they get much of the switch from AltiVec done for them.
If they handcoded it, they have to redo it. Unsure which way Apple went with this, it could have gone either way... but I'm pretty sure it is running SSE* code now.
Video playback is great thanks to the ATI graphics chip. 1080p HD video playback was faster on the new MacBook than my Dual 2 GHz G5 w/ 9800 Pro. See my full performance analysis for more details.
