Hey everyone, I'm looking at buying a new intel imac, but before I do, I want to make sure I'm upgrading what I should. I decided to go the 20" screen, and the faster proccesor. I also upgraded the RAM to one gig, and the VRAM on the GPU to 256. The most intensive thing I will be doing on this will be playing games, so that is why I upgraded the GPU. Think this will be good enough to do what I want to do?

Please post suggestions, or ask me some questions!

Please take note that many games are not universal yet. Most games will run probably slower than the iMac G5. However, once the universal games start coming out in droves, your iMac will be an excellent gaming mac.

Shadow, when you upgrade the RAM to 1GB make sure it's 1-1GB chip rather than 2-512MB chips. This allows for future addition of RAM.

Yah ik it will take a while for some games to go universal, but meanwhile I'll just play around with all the great mac programs (im just switching from windows now). Ok thats what i wanted to hear about it being a good gaming machine!

Yah i thought about that 1 1gig of Ram instead of 2 512mb, so i can upgrade later. Chances are ill be using this for 4-5 years so this way i can upgrade something later, if needed.

    Thanks for the input.

shadow- if gaming is what you do i dont think switching to a mac will be all that pleasing for a while.

i'd give it about a year minimum.

it will be the most difficult thing for my computer to do, but after all the problems on windows that i have had recently, i just can't use them anymore. I need a new computer anyway considering that this one freezes after computing X amount of data, so i can really only play 5 minutes of any game neways. Also i can get vista later, and duel-boot OSX and Vista, so i can use vista for the games, when i do play em. Also i am interested in learning how to do some grahic design, so a mac would be helpful for that aspect (not much, just play around in it a bit).
