ipod not showing as connected

(My brother is using a PC) When he plugs in his Ipod, usually it works just fine, but today, when he plugged it in it labeled it as "Removeable Disk" amd won't let him do anything with it. He can't right-click it, add songs. remove songs, or even format it.
